Bootleg Racing League | Season 22 | Round 2
Super Late Model Series | Myrtle Beach Speedway
In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, James Tiernan of Elbows Up Simsport emerged victorious in the highly anticipated Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series, presented by Whiteriver LLC, at Myrtle Beach Speedway. The race commenced with Jeffrey Kemper of Gambler Motorsports leading the field from the pole position, while Tiernan embarked on his journey from the 11th starting position, accompanied by the formidable presence of J.R. Shepherd.
Kemper’s promising start soon encountered difficulties just two laps into the race, causing him to fall back in the field, while Lowell Jewell seized the opportunity to take the lead. However, Jeffery Hardin showcased his remarkable prowess, swiftly working his way through the pack to claim the lead from Jewell on lap 12. A caution on lap 19, involving Jeff Sharp and Donny Moore of Thunder Ridge Racing, led to a significant collision with Shepherd’s car, resulting in substantial damage to his left front and prompting the intervention of the safety car.
As the field regrouped for the restart on lap 25, Hardin found himself at the forefront, leading the determined competitors. Tiernan, showcasing his tenacity, surged through the ranks and claimed an impressive third position, while Shepherd faced an uphill battle from the 18th spot.
With 33 laps completed, Tiernan executed a daring maneuver, charging around the outside and capturing the lead from Hardin. Meanwhile, Aiden Young quietly made his way through the field, shadowing Tiernan’s moves, while Shepherd valiantly maneuvered his damaged car back into contention, closely following Young’s path.
On lap 96, Tiernan opted to make a pit stop for fresh tires and a splash of fuel, relinquishing the lead to Hardin. Shepherd, determined to maximize his chances for victory, chose to extend his pit stop, hoping for a timely caution to regain his competitive edge. However, the caution failed to materialize, forcing Shepherd to pit on lap 130. Mark Hertzog took advantage of the situation and assumed control of the field, while Shepherd rejoined the race in seventh place.
As the laps dwindled, Tiernan mounted a formidable charge, swiftly ascending to the front of the pack, with Young hot on his heels, securing second place. Hertzog valiantly defended his lead, but Tiernan’s relentless pursuit ultimately paid off. On lap 152, Tiernan executed a daring move to secure the lead, and two laps later, Young followed suit, securing second position.
With the race approaching its conclusion, Young was unable to challenge Tiernan’s dominant position, as Tiernan emerged triumphant, crossing the finish line to claim the checkered flag. Shepherd, while settling for a fourth-place finish, maintained his strong position in the championship standings. Tiernan’s victory propelled him to the top of the point standings, holding a two-point advantage over Shepherd.
