Bootleg Racing League | Season 22 | Round 4
Super Late Model Series | Stafford Motor Speedway
In a thrilling race at Stafford Motor Speedway, James Tiernan of Elbows Up Simsport secured a remarkable victory in the Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series presented by Whiteriver LLC. The race witnessed intense competition, with Donnie Allen starting on the pole and Tiernan from the 9th position.
During the first half of the race, Donnie Allen led the pack for 13 laps before Stephen Spies took over as the race leader. However, Tiernan was on a relentless charge, making aggressive moves to climb through the field. Eventually, Tiernan found himself in 2nd place, closely trailing the leader, Stephen Spies, but was unable to find a way past him.
Changing his strategy, Tiernan made a bold move by coming down pit road on lap 90, aiming to short pit and gain an advantage over the competition. Spies followed suit, pitting 10 laps later, while Matt Hoose stayed out on track and assumed the lead. A caution on lap 102, resulting from contact between Kurt Smith and Joe Segalla, allowed Hoose to complete his pit cycle and retain the lead in the 2nd half, with Tiernan in 5th.
Hoose managed to extend his lead to over 4 seconds while Tiernan fought through traffic. However, Tiernan was able to start setting blistering lap times lap after lap on his older tires, quickly closing the gap to Hoose. Concerned about Tiernan’s pace and reputation for aggressive driving, Hoose chose to relinquish the lead and salvage a 2nd place finish going high, allowing Tiernan to take the lead with 15 laps remaining.
Tiernan held his position, leading the field to the checkered flag, securing the victory. With this win, Tiernan also claimed the lead in the point standings, now 17 points ahead of Kurt Smith.
