PGRL S5 R9 Recap
25 July 2023
Pretty Good Racing League | Season 5 | Round 9
Premier Series | Pocono Raceway
In a display of sheer dominance, Michael Chrobok with Loud Pedal Motorsports put on a masterful performance at Pocono Raceway in the MARRS Properties Vacation Rentals 200, part of the Pretty Good Racing League Premier Series. Woody Mahan led the pack from the pole position, but it wasn’t long before the battle for the lead intensified between Mahan, Mike Rasimas, Brian Yaczik, and the determined Michael Chrobok.
Yaczik held the lead in the early stages of the race, with Chrobok strategically choosing to push Yaczik rather than challenge for the lead, slowly distancing themselves from the pursuing Rasimas and Jonathan Cogswell. Meanwhile, Scott Eckrich, starting back in 13th, displayed an impressive charge up the field, reaching 5th place with just 20 laps completed. However, he couldn’t quite close the gap to the lead group at that point.
On lap 22, Chrobok seized the opportunity he had been waiting for and made a bold move around the outside of Yaczik, swiftly taking the lead. Demonstrating wise pit strategy throughout the race, Chrobok maintained his position at the front and showed no signs of relinquishing it.
As the laps ticked away, Chrobok continued to extend his lead, leaving his rivals in the dust. When the checkered flag waved, he crossed the finish line over 8 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Mike Rasimas, with Scott Eckrich securing an impressive 3rd place.
With Jeff Ward absent from tonight’s race, Chrobok’s stunning victory propels him into the points lead, now 75 points ahead of Ward. Eckrich follows closely in 3rd place, a mere 7 points behind Ward, setting the stage for a thrilling championship battle in the rounds to come.
Anticipation is building for Round 10, the Route 66 Paint & Wallpaper 200, scheduled for August 1st at Richmond Raceway. Be sure to tune in for all the action, going live at 8:55 PM ET, exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network!
