Bootleg Racing League | Season 22 | Round 7
Super Late Model Series | South Boston Speedway
A night of high-octane racing unfolded at South Boston Speedway as James Tiernan, representing Elbows Up Simsport, secured his fifth victory of the season in the fiercely competitive Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series presented by Whiteriver LLC. The event showcased exhilarating on-track battles, unexpected twists, and a display of remarkable skill.
With Tom Hilbert leading the pack from the pole position, the race quickly saw John Wilson seize the lead during the initial laps. Meanwhile, Tiernan and J R Shepherd embarked on a gradual ascent through the field, showcasing their racing prowess. However, an intense tussle with Chris Davis for the sixth position demonstrated that maneuvering past Davis was no easy task, as he tenaciously defended his position.
On lap 29, Tiernan attempted to gain an edge by getting under Davis. Unfortunately, when Shepherd aimed to follow suit, Davis abruptly closed the door, causing both Shepherd and Davis to spin off the track. Remarkably, the caution flag didn’t make an appearance, leaving the duo considerably behind the rest of the field.
As the race progressed into its latter stages, Tiernan demonstrated his resilience, managing to secure the second spot and put pressure on the leader, Matt Hoose. Meanwhile, Shepherd, determined to make up lost ground, embarked on an impressive charge, striving to regain lost positions. A well-timed caution on lap 123 provided Shepherd with an opportunity to rejoin the lead lap, reinvigorating his chances.
With Tiernan establishing a commanding lead at the front, he strategically distanced himself from the pursuing pack, anticipating Shepherd’s pursuit. As the laps wound down, Shepherd’s valiant effort saw him clinch a hard-fought third place, while Tiernan triumphantly crossed the finish line to claim the checkered flag.
Tiernan’s remarkable performance this season has solidified his dominance, boasting a commanding 51-point lead over Jeffery Hardin in the point standings. The series, which has witnessed several electrifying races, is shaping up to be a captivating showdown as the season unfolds.
Looking ahead, racing enthusiasts can anticipate more adrenaline-pumping action in Round 8 of the Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series. The upcoming event is scheduled for August 18th at Southern National Speedway, set to go live at 8:10 PM ET exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network. With fierce competition and strategic brilliance on display, the series continues to captivate racing fans around the world.
