BRL OUTLAWS S33 R9 Recap
1 December 2023
Bootleg Racing League | Season 33 | Round 9
Outlaw Modified Series | Myrtle Beach Speedway
In a nail-biting race at the Bootleg Racing League’s 100-lap event, Kurt Smith commenced from pole position while championship leader Aiden Young launched from 9th on the grid. Smith valiantly defended his lead against relentless challenges from Bruce Pearson and Donny Moore, creating a three-driver breakaway at the race’s outset.
Meanwhile, Young navigated through the field, strategically preserving his equipment, making a steady climb up to 5th place within the initial 30 laps. Pearson persistently pressured Smith but couldn’t make a move stick. Young, overtaking Todd Liston for 4th, closed the gap to the leading trio.
As Young closed in, Moore and Pearson, sensing his presence, intensified their maneuvers but were unable to unsettle Smith. Young executed an audacious outside pass on Moore, setting his sights on Pearson. Liston quietly crept back into contention, setting the stage for a five-car battle at the front.
On lap 63, Pearson’s slight error allowed Young to pounce, claiming 2nd place with a daring low pass. Moore, attempting to capitalize, engaged Pearson in a fierce battle for the final podium spot, but neither driver could secure a decisive advantage. Contact between them forced Moore to relent momentarily.
A pivotal moment arose on lap 77 as Young made a bold move, seizing the lead from Smith. Smith, unable to counter from the outside, slotted into 2nd ahead of Pearson, reigniting the battle between Moore and Pearson for 3rd. Unfortunately, a collision between Moore and Pearson brought out a late-race caution on lap 84, ending Pearson’s race prematurely while Moore rejoined a lap down.
In the race’s waning laps, Liston capitalized on an inside restart, overtaking Smith for 2nd place. Meanwhile, Young, representing Gambler Motorsports, cruised around the final corner to clinch yet another impressive victory, further solidifying his 32-point lead over Liston in the championship standings.
The exhilarating action continues next week at Martinsville Speedway on December 8th, with the Bootleg Racing League’s live broadcast at 8:55 PM ET, exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network. Fans eagerly await the final rounds as the competition heats up in the thrilling BRL championship battle.
