Absolute Beginners League | Season 36 | Round 4
GT3 Series Andy Morgan Cup | Road America

On Sunday, April 7th, the Absolute Beginners League showcased their expertise in challenging weather conditions, delivering thrilling dual 20-minute races at Road America under rainy skies. Marcus Byfeldt, the points leader, led the grid for the first race from the pole position.

As the race commenced, drivers navigated the treacherous conditions, striving to find grip on the wet track. Byfeldt initially built a significant lead, but the tables quickly turned as the track began to dry out. David Burns, who opted for dry tires at the start, capitalized on the changing conditions, closing the gap to Byfeldt and eventually seizing the lead.

Byfeldt, struggling with pace as the track dried, lost positions rapidly, ultimately finishing fifth. Burns claimed victory in the first race, with Joan Sanchez and Wojtek Potoczek rounding out the podium.

For the second race, the top five finishers from the first race were inverted to determine the starting grid. Byfeldt, starting from pole once again, faced a now-soaked track as rain returned to the area. This time, however, Byfeldt was well-prepared, breaking away from the competition early on.

Despite impressive lap times from Burns and Potoczek, they couldn’t match Byfeldt’s blistering pace on the wet track. Byfeldt showcased his mastery of the conditions, extending his lead lap after lap. In a dominant performance, Byfeldt crossed the finish line with a staggering 24-second lead over Burns.

With consistent finishes throughout the challenging day at Road America, Burns finds himself tied for the points lead with Byfeldt. As the ABL looks ahead to the next round in the Formula Neagle Series at Circuit Zandvoort, fans can expect more exhilarating racing action, further demonstrating the league’s expertise and skill on the track. Tune in live at 1:50 PM ET, exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network, to witness the excitement unfold.
