On Saturday, January 18th, the Bootleg Racing League’s Late Model Invitational Series delivered another thrilling race during the third round of Season 29 at Five Flags Speedway. Mike Holloway and Mark Hertzog entered the night tied for the points lead, but Rubin Altice left as the night’s big winner and a new contender for the championship battle.

Tre Blohm started the race on pole, flanked by Todd Liston. Blohm led the opening laps but surrendered the lead to James Lowe on lap 6. Lowe quickly asserted dominance, setting a blistering pace and building a lead of over 2.5 seconds as the first half of the race went caution-free.

However, on lap 56, the green-flag run came to an abrupt end. A tap from Jeffrey Hardin sent Darryl Wineinger spinning out of turn 2, bringing out the first caution of the night and erasing Lowe’s commanding advantage.

On the restart, Chris Davis surged into second, setting his sights on Lowe. Once again, Lowe pulled away from the field, but tire wear began to play a crucial role as the race entered its final stages. Rubin Altice, known for his methodical approach, steadily worked his way forward, taking second place as others struggled to maintain grip.

With just 7 laps remaining, a late caution bunched up the field and gave Altice his shot at the lead. On the restart, Lowe’s earlier pace began to falter under the strain of worn tires. Altice capitalized, diving to the inside to take the lead with 4 laps to go. Before John Wilson could claim second, Aiden Young made an aggressive move to secure the runner-up spot, relegating Wilson to third as Lowe slipped further down the order.

Altice crossed the line first, claiming his second consecutive victory of the season. The win propelled him into a three-way tie for the points lead alongside Mike Holloway and Aiden Young.
