Red Light Racing’s Skitter Creek SK Modifieds held its 6th race of the season at Lanier National Speedway on Valentine’s Day Eve, February 13. The 3/8 mile oval was sweet on Eric Stout with Stout effectively leading from flag-to-flag. The performance was a continuance of Stout’s domination from last week’s event at Stafford, where he also led flag-to-flag. The win extended Stout’s points lead, he’s now 26 points ahead of Bradley Stefane.
Stout brought the RaceDayCT.com starting grid to the green flag after turning a 13.048 second lap in qualifying. Rounding out the top 5 in qualifying were AJ Hamel, Jeff Aho, Ken Allen and Chad Alcares, all of whom were less than 1/10th of a second off of Stout’s qualifying pace.
The event was slowed by 5 cautions for a total of 20 laps. The biggest disruption occurred on lap 39 when TJ Henson and Brian Neff got together in turn four. Several other drivers were caught up in the resulting brouhaha including Donny Moore, Chris Haizlip, Lowell Jewell, Scott Negus, Fred LeClair, and Bob Higgins.
Two drivers managed to beat Stout to the line on restarts limiting Stout to leading an impressive 99 of the 102 laps. Second place finisher AJ Hamel led 2 laps, and third place finisher Brian Bianchi led a lap as well. Hamel and Bianchi were separated by just 4-thousandths of a second at the checkered flag. Jeff Aho and Rex Hoyle finished the event in 4th and 5th, respectively.
Kenny Allen turned the fastest lap of the race with a 13.072 second lap, narrowly beating Jeff Aho’s best lap by just 1-thousandths of a second. Scott Negus was the Hard Charger of the Race, picking up an impressive 11 spots to finish 9th after starting 20th. Only four drivers left the event without any incident points, those being Stout, Hoyle, Stefane (finished 7th), and LeClair (finished 11th).
Stout’s and Stefane’s status of being at the top of the points race remained after the event. Rex Hoyle, Chad Alcares, and Jeff Aho complete the top 5. Only 32 points separate Stout and Aho with 10 races yet to go in the season.
The drivers will have the opportunity to turn both right and left at next week’s race at Watkins Glen International. Catch all of the action LIVE on Virtual Grip Network, the green flag is scheduled to drop at 7:55 PM Eastern on Thursday, February 20th.
