BRL Late Model Invitational S29R09 | Oswego Speedway

by Tre Blohm

The high-octane action of Season 29 Round 09 kicked off with Chris Haizlip and Bruce Pearson leading the charge to the green flag! Haizlip shot out of the gate, but Pearson had to hold off a fierce dive from Todd Liston as they thundered into Turn 1, resulting in a nail-biting contact! Liston seized 2nd place, with Tre Blohm lurking just behind as he eyed Pearson for 3rd when a caution waved on Lap 2.

As the engines roared back to life on Lap 6, Haizlip and Liston resumed their battle at the front. Haizlip bolted ahead, but Blohm executed a daring inside maneuver on Liston, claiming 2nd. It didn’t take long for Blohm to challenge Haizlip; by Lap 6, he was alongside him through Turns 3 and 4, and on Lap 7, he snagged the lead! Liston soon followed suit, relegating Haizlip to 3rd, while Ed Sprenger seized 4th from Pearson. Another caution dampened the excitement briefly on Lap 9.  Racing kicked back into gear on Lap 14 with Blohm and Liston at the helm once more. Blohm cleared the field and Liston settled into 2nd comfortably, but Haizlip was feeling the heat from Pearson! A quarter of the way through, the pack settled into mostly single-file racing, but occasional challenges kept the tension high.

By Lap 36, the battle intensified as Haizlip found himself under attack from Pearson on the outside while Adam Schoen joined the fray. But the outside line faltered, causing Pearson to fall back while Schoen held onto the 4th spot. On Lap 39, Schoen made a bold move inside Haizlip, claiming 3rd! Meanwhile, Blohm was cruising with over a second lead by Lap 41.  Caution swept through again on Lap 49, but when action resumed on Lap 54, Blohm and Liston were right back at it! With Blohm pulling ahead, Liston settled in for 2nd. Schoen was holding down 3rd as Pearson clashed with Mike Holloway for 4th, with Pearson ultimately taking the victory in that duel. However, on Lap 58, Brennan Myers swooped in, making a stunning inside move on Pearson to snatch 4th for himself!

Speeding toward Lap 61, Schoen executed a thrilling maneuver going into Turn 1, overtaking Liston to claim 2nd! The drama continued on Lap 82, where Myers and Davis fought tooth and nail for 4th, with Myers completing the pass! But the excitement was cut short by a caution on Lap 88.  When things restarted on Lap 93, Blohm and Schoen reignited the battle at the front. Blohm fired off the line like a rocket, but Schoen struggled to find traction on the outside, allowing Myers to push 3-wide into Turn 1, leading to an incredible pile-up on the frontstretch! The caution brought the race to a halt on Lap 93.

Once action resumed on Lap 98, it was Blohm and James Lowe vying for dominance. Blohm held strong, but Lowe kept the pressure on from the outside, inching closer with every lap. As the white flag waved on Lap 99, Lowe was at Blohm’s bumper heading into Turn 1. But Blohm found a burst of speed, pulling ahead down the backstretch. As they roared out of Turn 4, it was Blohm who triumphed, claiming victory in Season 29 Round 09 at Oswego Speedway! James Lowe crossed the line in a valiant 2nd place, and the current season points leader, Aiden Young, rounded out the top three in 3rd.
