Lowe Dominates “The Triangle” and Claims Fifth Win of Season at Concord
Concord, NC — The Bootleg Racing League SteelCraft Structures Super Late Model Series tackled the “awkward” Concord Speedway for Round 6, and James Lowe once again proved nearly untouchable. Navigating the track’s challenging five-turn layout—humorously simplified to three turns by the broadcast crew—Lowe secured his fifth win in six races, further cementing his dominance in Season 26.
Steve Hilbert started on the pole, joined on the front row by Tommy Hilbert after Lewis Flowers was penalized to the back of the field. At the drop of the green, Steve Hilbert jumped into the early lead while Lowe, starting 11th, immediately began carving through traffic. The first caution appeared around Lap 10 when Lowell Jewell pinched Jeff Sharp into the wall, damaging Sharp’s right front.
Todd Liston seized the lead on the restart with a high-side move reminiscent of classic short-track passes. Lowe quickly followed, dispatching Steve Hilbert to take second and setting up a tense battle for the top spot. Liston overdriving the tri-oval eventually wore his tires down, and by Lap 49 Lowe poked underneath to take the lead, a position he would never relinquish.
Meanwhile, the fight for the final podium spot raged. Steve Hilbert defended his #52 “Purple People Eater” fiercely against Chris Davis, who repeatedly pressured Hilbert’s bumper. Hilbert held strong until Lap 68 when Davis finally cleared him for third. A second caution near Lap 70 shook up the field when Adam Schoen lost control in Turn 2, collecting Ruben Altice and Jeffery Hardin in the process.
The final restart saw Davis attempt a late challenge, but a poor restart left him scrambling to maintain position, allowing Lowe to cruise unchallenged to victory. Todd Liston held on for third despite a late-wall encounter, while Lewis Flowers rebounded from his early penalty to finish fifth.
In victory lane, Lowe credited patience and tire preservation on Concord’s abrasive surface for his triumph, noting the importance of being “a lot slower than you probably thought you had to.” His fifth win further extends a points lead that is quickly becoming insurmountable as the series heads next to the South Boston Speedway “bull ring,” where contenders will try to stop his streak.
