Bootleg Racing League | Season 14 | Round 2
Dirt Street Stock Series | Lucas Oil Speedway
Jaycee Floyd took the checkered flag tonight in his first race with the Bootleg Racing League Dirt Street Stock Series at Lucas Oil Speedway ahead of Kyle Jared and Brandyn Proudfoot. Coming out of a late race caution it was a shootout to the finish that Floyd commented on at the end of the night, “I got tight there in turn one because it’s so hard hitting your groove for so long and then you go back, and you miss it that one lap.”
Two Bootleg Racing League rookies made their presence known tonight by sitting atop the timing and scoring boards in qualifying as Kyle Jared and Jaycee Floyd outpaced series staples such as multi-season champion Brandyn Proudfoot. Jared, with a fast lap of 18.111, led out the first heat of the night to kick off the action. Jared pulled away from the field to take the first checkered flag over 1 second ahead of Stephen Spies. Floyd, Proudfoot, Billy Northcutt, and Chris Davis won the remaining heats. Zachary Loomis, Cody Shaw, and Bradlee Means took their respective consolation race wins leading up to the 30-lap feature event.
Jared led the 22-car field around to take the green flag and got a good jump running side by side with Floyd going around the opening laps. Floyd cleared around the outside to take the lead going after the first 4 laps while the entire field scrambled for position. Proudfoot was aggressively pushing Northcutt trying to take away 3rd while Spies battled side by side with Aiden Young, William Hargreaves, and Justin Hopkins for 5th place with 10 laps completed.
Young was slowly chipping away at the battle pulling ahead into 5th but unfortunately caught the tires along the inside of the track sending himself and several other drivers trying to avoid contact into the infield grass and bringing out the caution. Davis struggled off the start and fell back, but quickly recovered and was back up to 8th as the drivers restacked to again take the green with Floyd in control of the field. Proudfoot cleared into 3rd off the start and was starting to put pressure on Jared going into the 2nd half of the night.
With 10 laps remaining, Floyd had extended his lead out to over 0.6 seconds ahead of Jared who still had Proudfoot on his rear bumper. Dirt Panda teammates Northcutt and Hargreaves were battling hard over 4th place close behind as Proudfoot saw his chance and dove under Jared for 2nd but unable to make it stick before falling back in line in 3rd. A late race caution restacked the field one last time with 2 laps to go. Jaycee Floyd got another great launch and pulled away from Kyle Jared to take the checkered flag with Brandyn Proudfoot, Billy Northcutt, and William Hargreaves rounding out the top 5 tonight at Lucas Oil Speedway.
Billy Northcutt claims the lead in the point standings with 152 points after the first two rounds. William Hargreaves drops back to 2nd place with 147 points. Aide Young sits in 3rd with 115 points while David Traylor and Hunter Hill are tied for 4th place with 100 points each.
