Bootleg Racing League | Season 1 | Round 10
National Sprint Car Trail | Hickory Motor Speedway
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

Jeffrey Stanton with JS Racing took the checkered flag tonight with the Bootleg Racing League National Sprint Car Trail at Hickory Motor Speedway ahead of Justin Morton and Joe Adams. Stanton commented after taking his win, “It’s a very tricky track here I mean I was making the same mistakes here that I would in a legend car in real life 10 years ago It’s very easy to over drive turn 3 and get tight and off of [turn] 4 and off of [turn] 2 you can get pretty loose.”

Jeffrey Stanton secured the pole in qualifying with a fast 4-lap average time of 13.014, beating the rest of the field by over 0.1 seconds and took the green flag with Joe Adams to his outside. Stanton had a good jump off the start and the front quickly went single file with the field splitting into two packs within the opening laps with a gap building between Stephen Spies in 6th and John Heyn in 7th. Brandyn Proudfoot was looking to the inside of Adams for 2nd but couldn’t line up a pass while under pressure from Aiden Young behind him.

Stanton used the battling behind him to extend his lead out pulling away with 10 laps completed. Justin Morton was aggressively pushing and cleared around Young closing on the rear of Proudfoot as trouble for Heyn brought the caution flag out restacking the drivers to resume racing going into lap 14. Again, Stanton was able to get a great jump out ahead of Adams. Proudfoot and Morton were tight on the rear bumper of Adams looking to challenge as another caution came out as Young got loose from a sudden checkup and was sent hard into the outside wall on lap 17.

As racing again resumed, Morton saw his opportunity and dove beneath Proudfoot to take away 3rd place and immediately set his sights to Adams. Spies was staying close on the rear of Proudfoot keeping the pressure high as the drivers entered the 2nd half of the run. Morton quickly dove low under Adams and cleared out ahead into 2nd place as Spies moved up into 4th directly behind Adams. Morton was slowly reeling Stanton in with 15 laps remaining while Adams was consistently holding off Spies.

Morton was able to close the gap to the lead completely going into the final laps looking to the inside but unable to complete the pass as Stanton used the outside momentum to hold the lead. Coming out of the final corner, Jeffrey Stanton took the checkered flag ahead of Justin Morton with Joe Adams, Stephen Spies, and Aiden Young rounding out the top 5 tonight at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Aiden Young holds onto the lead in the overall point standings with 628 points. Justin Morton moved up into 2nd with 614 points as Bruce Jones slid back to 3rd with 583 points. Stephen Spies sits into 4th with 534 points and Rory Collins rounds out the top 5 drivers with 503 points. Justin Morton is the current points leader in the Asphalt Sprints with 224 points ahead of Aiden Young and Stephen Spies. The drivers of the Bootleg Racing League will be back after the holiday break to take on Lernerville Speedway in the dirt midgets on January 6th with all of the intense action brought to you live at 10:30PM ET exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network!

BRL SLM S19 R11 Recap

10 December 2022
Bootleg Racing League | Season 19 | Round 11
Super Late Model Series | Five Flags Speedway
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

J R Shepherd with Different Path Motorsports took the checkered flag and the Season 19 championship tonight with the Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series at Five Flags Speedway ahead of Kienny Kibbey and Justin Morton. “The car still had some decent speed, but I could tell that the front just wasn’t rotating as well as it was before… so I knew it was going to be a long night”, Shepherd shared with us regarding the damage he took early on in the night, “[I was] surprised to kind of hold guys off enough.”

J R Shepherd came into the final round of Season 19 strong with a 4-lap average time at 16.274 in qualifying getting the highest point bonus possible before gridding up for the 100-lap feature event. Donny Moore started on pole to the inside of Austin Boelke to take the green flag which unfortunately was chaotic as several drivers came together coming out of turn 2 end the evening early for both Mathew Thunhorst and Jason Menda. The field stacked back up to again take the green with Moore in the lead going into lap 7.

Kenny Kibbey quickly moved up into 3rd and was running close behind Boelke as Moore was able to defend his position in the early stages of the race. Shepherd and Justin Morton were quietly pushing up through the field running in 5th and 6th respectively getting around Joseph Snyder. In the front of the field, Kibbey was started to show some impatience with Boelke keeping the pressure high while looking both high and low as Shepherd and Morton both cleared into the top 5.

In a shocking turn of events, Boelke and Moore had contact sending both drivers spinning in opposite directions on track collecting Kibbey, Morton, and Shepherd in the mayhem. Shepherd came out the other side in the lead, but with significant damage to the left rear of his Different Path motorsports Ford Mustang while Kibbey, Boelke, and Morton were all outside of the top 10 looking in as the green flag came out on track. Shepherd had a good jump off the restart going into lap 25 ahead of Matt Hoose with Todd Liston directly behind looking to challenge for 2nd.

Hoose was able to clear Liston for 2nd as the field struggled to get single filed out around the track. Bryan Dehn got alongside Liston to the outside and was able to clear into 3rd as Liston got loose dropping back to 4th. Kibbey and Boelke were both back with the top 10 while Morton struggled in the field back in 12th while Shepherd was able to set the pace out front ahead of Hoose. Going into the 2nd half of the night, Shepherd still had a strong hold on the lead after multiple cautions and restarts with Kibbey in 3rd cautiously climbing up through the field.

Kibbey secured 2nd place and slotted in behind Shepherd with 40 laps remaining while Shepherd continued to wrestle his damaged car around the track. Morton was up to 5th and quickly closing on Dehn and Hoose ahead while trouble for Boelke has put him back in 14th. Morton had completely closed the gap to the leaders as another caution came out on lap 80 giving Morton an easy opportunity to get around Hoose for 3rd off the restart while Kibbey continued to look for a way around Shepherd.

Morton tried to get under Kibbey but couldn’t hold the line as Kibbey clear back ahead into 2nd. Morton continued to look beneath Kibbey which prevented Kibbey from getting a good run on Shepherd going into the final laps. A late caution came out going into lap 96 from contact between Dehn and Liston further back in the field and led to J R Shepherd taking the checkered flag under yellow flag conditions with Kenny Kibbey, Justin Morton, Jeffrey Hardin, and Matt Shinoski rounding out the top 5 tonight at Five Flags Speedway.

J R Shepherd claimed the season championship with tonight’s win with 513 points. Justin Morton took 2nd place with 475 points and Mathew Thunhorst fell back to 3rd after a couple a rough finishes at the end of the season with 464 points. Donny Moore finished in 4th place with 357 points, beating Joseph Snyder by 1 point rounding out the top 5. Next season, the Bootleg Racing League will be switch over to the limited late model car with the first round kicking off on January 7th at New Smyrna Speedway with all of the action broadcast live at 9PM ET exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network!

Endeavor Derby Recap

09 December 2022
Endurance League Events | Endeavor Derby
Super Late Models | Iowa Speedway
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

Mathew Thunhorst with Forge Racing representing the Bootleg Racing League took the checkered flag tonight in the Endeavor Derby at Iowa Speedway presented by Endurance League Events ahead of David Krikorian and Jacob Fyfe. “That was the hardest I’ve ever raced on the service ever”, Thunhorst commented as the night came to a close, “I got lucky with getting out in front of David there and getting the lead and at that point I just left it all on the track and you saw the result.”

David Krikorian with Rookie eSports secured the pole and lead the 30-car field around to take the green flag with Justin Morton to his outside. Krikorian and Morton quickly went single file out front as much of the field scrambled for position gains early on. Michael Strohl and Michael Chrobok were both quietly moving up through the field climbing up to 4th and 7th respectively in the first 10 laps. Mathew Thunhorst started dead last in the field and was up 11 spots to 19th quickly negotiating through traffic.

As the laps counted down early in the evening, the drivers started to spread out around the track into smaller battles. Thunhorst was inside of the top 10 and showed no signs of slowing his advance as Krikorian continued to lead ahead of Morton with Strohl in 3rd running 2 seconds behind the leaders. With 45 laps completed, a caution came out after an incident in the middle of the field involving Braxton DeWeese, Carl Henderson, and Blake Trawick giving the field an opportunity to come down pit road for the first pit cycle and unfortunately ending DeWeese’s night early.

Stephen Moore was in control of the field as the green flag came back out with Krikorian directly behind him. Morton was holding onto 3rd place with Blake Gordon and Thunhorst rounding out the top 5 with 50 laps behind them. Morton cleared around the outside of Krikorian for 2nd and continued the push getting to the outside of Moore to take away the lead. Thunhorst followed Morton’s line moving up into 3rd and closed in on the rear bumper of Krikorian as Moore was shuffled back to 4th. Krikorian slid his tires just enough for Thunhorst to easily secure 2nd place going into lap 60.

The field quickly settled into a groove to put more laps behind them spreading out around the track as Thunhorst saw his chance and dove low to challenge Morton for the lead. Going into lap 65, Thunhorst cleared for the lead and held it as they were reaching the first signs of lap traffic. Strohl moved up to 3rd and was closing in on Morton ahead with Krikorian directly behind him pressuring him for the position. As the laps counted down, Thunhorst was able to pull away from Morton by over 1.6 seconds and Morton found himself again under pressure from Krikorian and Strohl.

With 100 laps completed, Morton had fallen back to 6th behind Stephen Moore and Jacob Fyfe with Thunhorst still holding the lead with a 2 second gap between himself and Krikorian. A caution shortly thereafter allowed the entire field to come down pit road for their 2nd stop of the night with Thunhorst holding the lead for the restart ahead of Krikorian and Blake Gordan. Thunhorst had a strong jump off the green flag and was able to clear out ahead of Krikorian as the top 5 drivers quickly single filed out.

There were very few battles throughout the field as drivers settled into their grooves to check off some laps with a long night still ahead of them. An incident on lap 152 with Chad Mikosz, Michael Strohl, and Blake Gordan all going for 4th place while negotiating around lap traffic resulted in Gordan falling back to 15th as the caution flag came out allowing the field another safe pit cycle. Michael Chrobok won the race off pit road ahead of Thunhorst but restarted from 2nd behind Kyle Cooper who stayed out on track while the rest of the field pitted. Cooper was quickly overtaken by Thunhorst as racing resumed with a little more than half of the night behind them.

Going into the final 100 lap stretch, Thunhorst continued to hold the lead with over a 2 second gap ahead of Krikorian and Mikosz. Another caution from a spin in the middle of the field shuffled the running order as the drivers came back down pit road with Thunhorst running 3rd behind Jeffrey Stanton and Krikorian for the restart going into lap 207. Thunhorst stayed alongside Krikorian trying to take away 2nd place but made contact with Stanton sending Stanton around across the infield and Krikorian claimed the race lead as the caution came back out.

As racing resumed going into lap 214, Krikorian quickly cleared out front with Cody Smith getting to the inside of Thunhorst, but Thunhorst was able to defend 2nd place and started reeling the leader back in as drivers throughout the field were getting more aggressive going after positions with the end of the night in sight. Thunhorst matched the pace of Krikorian but wasn’t actively going after the lead as the 2 drivers started to pull away from the rest of the field with less than 80 laps remaining.

With drivers taking more risks, a series of cautions came out one after another ending the night early for several drivers and shuffling the running order around as leaders tried to outmaneuver each other with varying pit strategies. Going into the last 50 laps of the night, Krikorian was in control of the field as Thunhorst was climbing back up through traffic after opting to take fresh tires later in the run. More cautions helped Thunhorst to get back up within reach of the lead as the laps quickly counted down.

Thunhorst reclaimed the lead from Blake Trawick off another restart with 28 laps to go. Krikorian followed Thunhorst around into 2nd but wasn’t close enough to challenge for the lead. Going into the final laps, Krikorian got to the inside of Thunhorst, but Thunhorst fought back from the outside lane and was able to hold the lead clearing Krikorian’s front bumper. Kirkorian continued to pressure Thunhorst, but just wasn’t able to take the lead back as Mathew Thunhorst took the checkered flag ahead of David Krikorian with Jacob Fyfe, Michael Chrobok, and Blake Trawick rounding out the top 5 tonight at Iowa Speedway.

Bootleg Racing League | Season 13 | Round 11
Dirt Street Stock Series | Knoxville Raceway
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

William Hargreaves with Dirt Panda took the checkered flag and the season championship tonight with the Bootleg Racing League Dirt Street Stock Series at Knoxville Raceway ahead of Adam Carlisle and Jason Best. “I was going for the win, I mean we’re here to race weekly and have a great time and this group of guys that we got, you get a lot of respect out of everybody and it just makes it so much more fun”, Hargreaves commented when asked if the championship was on his mind tonight, “We all show up to try to get that win, it was a lot of fun and [Carlisle] gave it everything he had.”

Adam Carlise sat on top of the timing and scoring boards in qualifying with a 4-lap average time of 22.668 followed closely by both Dirt Panda drivers, William Hargreaves and Billy Northcutt. Carlisle then dominated the first heat of the night and secured the pole position for the feature event later on. Hargreaves and Northcutt won their respective heat events and advanced directly to the feature while Chris Hill and Jeremy Akins took the checkered flag in the last chance qualifier rounds.

Carlisle had a good jump off the green flag to kick off the 40-lap feature event with Hargreaves challenging for the lead to his inside. Northcutt had a strong hold on 3rd ahead of Jason Best and J R Shepherd as Carlisle was able to utilize the momentum off the highline to clear ahead of Hargreaves. Northcutt tried to use the inside against Hargreaves but wasn’t able to complete the move slotting back into 3rd. Hargreaves got alongside Carlisle making another attempt for the lead running side by side for several laps before Hargreaves cleared ahead going into lap 12 as Northcutt got sent around bringing out the caution.

Chris Hill and Northcutt came together on corner entry creating a roadblock that collected multiple drivers and dropping Northcutt to the rear of the field as they lined back up for the restart. Hargreaves quickly secured the lead off the jump still running the lowline under Carlisle. Carlisle was committed to the outside line and was again using the momentum to get back alongside Hargreaves as Northcutt had more bad luck further back in the field getting collected in another incident.

Best caught the leaders and started challenging Hargreaves for 2nd place with Carlisle in control of the field going into the 2nd half of the night. Hargreaves again dove low and threw a slider on Carlisle but unable to clear with Best directly behind them waiting for an opportunity. The leaders were able to separate themselves from the rest of the field as the battle for 4th was a hornet’s nest of 7 cars weaving through each other and taking corners 4 wide with Chris Hill holding the position.

Going into the final 10 laps, Carlisle continued to lead with Hargreaves directly behind him. Hargreaves and Carlisle were throwing sliders back and forth until Hargreaves was able to hold Carlisle back. The white flag came out and Best tried to take 2nd place from Carlisle but couldn’t hold it coming out of the final corner as William Hargreaves took the checkered flag with Adam Carlisle, Jason Best, Chris Hill, and Zachary Loomis rounding out the top 5 tonight at Knoxville Raceway.

William Hargreaves took the Bootleg Racing League Dirt Street Stock Series Season 13 Championship tonight with 795 points ahead of Adam Carlisle. Billy Northcutt finished out the season in 3rd with J R Shepherd and Jason best rounding out the top 5 drivers. The drivers with the Bootleg Racing League will be back after the holidays for the season 14 opener at Lernerville Speedway on January 6th with all of the dirt slinging action broadcast live at 7:10PM ET exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network!

Bootleg Racing League | Season 19 | Round 10
Super Late Model Series | South Boston Speedway
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

Chris Davis with Team CDR claimed his first win in the series tonight with the Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series at South Boston Speedway ahead of Mathew Thunhorst and Austin Boelke. “The [racing] stewards put me up to the front [and] we decided to just let it play out. Also, I had a whole lot of luck.”, Davis shared with us as the exciting night came to a close before adding, “I really glad to be here tonight though.”

Justin Morton had the fast time going into the evening with a 4-lap average time of 14.775 in qualifying beating J R Shepherd’s time by 0.02 and started the 100-lap event in 10th place from the grid invert. Mike Holloway held the pole as the green flag came out with Mike LeMieux to his outside. Off the jump, Holloway pulled out front as Chris Davis, starting in 3rd, got under LeMieux to take away 2nd place. Davis quickly went after the lead getting a nose to the inside of Holloway taking control of the 24-car field with only 1 lap completed.

With 10 laps behind them, familiar names started pulling up into the top 10 with Austin Boelke leading the charge. Shepherd was up to 4th while Thunhorst was running in 10th behind Matt Hoose. Shepherd dove beneath Boelke to taking away 3rd as Boelke slotted back in line in 4th ahead of Donny Moore. LeMieux soon found himself shuffled back to 4th as Shepherd and Boelke cleared around him before setting their sights to Davis still in control of the field with 25 laps completed.

Shepherd saw an opportunity soon thereafter and went around to the outside of Davis taking away his momentum to taking the lead away going into lap 40. Thunhorst had climbed up to 6th with Kenny Kibbey directly behind him while Morton was in 10th patiently negotiating through the dense traffic. Going into the 2nd half of the night, Shepherd had built up a 0.5 second gap between himself and Davis before settling into a groove to put some laps behind him. Boelke was pressuring Davis for 2nd but wasn’t able to find an opening to take advantage of.

With the laps counting down, Shepherd had extended his lead out to almost 0.8 seconds ahead of Davis as a caution came out from issues with the field pushing through lap traffic on lap 68 completely blocking the front stretch forcing the leaders to come to a stop on the track as drivers were still blocking progress. Davis was given back the lead for the restart from confusion with the racing stewards regarding which drivers were actually involved in the incident with so many cars stopped on track and Shepherd was shuffled back to 5th as the green came back out.

With 20 laps remaining, Shepherd was noticeably upset with the stewards’ decision showing a lot of aggression as he weaved high and low battling with Kibbey for 4th. Davis was showing a strong pace in the final laps pulling away from Boelke and Thunhorst while Morton found himself blocked behind the battle between Shepherd and Kibbey. With 10 laps remaining, Davis had stretched the gap between himself and Boelke to over 0.7 who was holding back Thunhorst in 3rd. With a late race caution on lap 96 brought the race to an early end as Chris Davis took the checkered flag under caution flag conditions ahead of Mathew Thunhorst, Austin Boelke, J R Shepherd, and Kenny Kibbey tonight at South Boston Speedway.

J R Shepherd is the official season champion going into the final round next week with 463 points, 29 points ahead of Mathew Thunhorst with 434 points. Justin Morton with 433 points holds onto 3rd place only 1 point behind 2nd. Joseph Snyder and Donny Moore are now tied for 4th place with 322 points each. The final round of Season 19 of the Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series will be held at Five Flags Speedway on December 10th with all of the action broadcast live at 9PM ET exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network!

Bootleg Racing League | Season 1 | Round 9
National Sprint Car Trail | The Milwaukee Mile
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

James Tiernan continues his winning streak with another checkered flag tonight in the Silver Crowns with the Bootleg Racing League National Sprint Car Trail at The Milwaukee Mile ahead of Justin Morton and Tyler Shadduck. “I think that’s the most up front passing we’ve seen on asphalt yet, just a 3-way battle almost the entire time.”, Tiernan commented at the end of the night, “It was an absolute blast that’s been my favorite race so far… [Morton] really showed up today and [Shadduck] was right up there with us the whole time too.”

Justin Morton secured the pole going into the night with a 4-lap average time of 27.793 in qualifying a led the field around to take the green flag with James Tiernan to his outside. Morton had a good launch off the start, but Tiernan stayed close and took advantage when Morton got loose to take away the lead on the 2nd lap. Tyler Shadduck closed in on the leaders and started to build up a gap between himself and Aiden Young in 4th. Stephen Spies and Joe Adams battled over 5th trading the position back and forth with Bruce Jones getting a nose between them and allowing Adams to hold the position.

Morton stayed glued to Tiernan’s rear bumper keeping the pressure high around the opening laps. Shadduck held pace with the leaders as the top 3 pulled away from the field by almost 3 seconds with 10 laps completed. The battle for the lead stayed intense with all 3 drivers running within 0.5 seconds with Spies looking to the inside several times but opting to stay in line behind Tiernan. Shadduck tried several times to make a run against Morton but couldn’t complete the move and the leaders continued to run single file as they reached the first signs of lap traffic going into the 2nd half of the night.

The leaders continued to run within 0.5 seconds each waiting for the driver ahead to make a mistake. Morton got a nose to the inside of Tiernan and minor contact between them bumped Tiernan up the track enough for both Morton and Shadduck to push him back to 3rd. Shadduck closed in tight on Morton looking for a gap to the inside but got loose allowing Tiernan to get alongside him to and gave Morton the first gap in the leading battle of the night. Shadduck and Tiernan closed back in on Morton with 20 laps remaining as Morton negotiated around lap traffic.

Tiernan saw an opportunity and dove beneath Shadduck to clear back into 2nd place as Morton struggled to maintain the 0.6 second gap between them. Again, reaching lap traffic, Morton was forced to check up enough for Tiernan to completely close the gap to the front and Tiernan immediately started aggressively looking toward the inside. Morton defensively ran a tight line trying to hold Tiernan off going into the final 10 laps.

Tiernan tried to dive low but got loose and slotted back in line behind Morton as the laps counted down. Tiernan again dove low and was able to make it stick quickly taking the lead away with Morton staying very close behind. Shadduck closed back in on the lead battle again and all 3 drivers were pushing hard going into the final moments. Coming out of the last corner, James Tiernan was able to hold of Justin Morton and Tyler Shadduck to take the checkered flag with Aiden Young and Joe Adams rounding out the top 5 tonight with the Silver Crowns at The Milwaukee Mile.

Aiden Young holds onto the lead in the overall point standings with 570 points. Justin Morton moved up into 2nd with 547 points as Bruce Jones slid back to 3rd with 534 points. Stephen Spies sits in 4th with 473 points and Rory Collins rounds out the top 5 drivers with 448 points. Justin Morton is the current points leader in the Silver Crowns with 221 points ahead of Aiden Young and Bruce Jones. The drivers of the Bootleg Racing League will be back to take on Hickory Motor Speedway in the Asphalt Sprints on December 16th with all of the intense action brought to you live at 10:30PM ET exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network!

Bootleg Racing League | Season 13 | Round 10
Dirt Street Stock Series | Port Royal Speedway
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

Adam Carlisle with House of Speed took the checkered flag tonight with the Bootleg Racing League Dirt Street Stock Series at Port Royal Speedway ahead of Brandyn Proudfoot and William Hargreaves. “With that top groove the way it is and there really being nothing on the bottom, just you really gotta elbow up on the track to get anything done for sure. That was a wild one.”, Carlisle shared with us as the night came to a close, “This track’s like playing a chess game for sure.”

Adam Carlisle came into the evening strong setting the fastest 4-lap average time in qualifying at 22.846 beating Billy Northcutt in 2nd place by over 0.3 seconds. William Hargreaves shared the front row with Carlisle as the green flag came out over the first heat event with Brandyn Proudfoot back in 7th after making contact with the outside wall and not getting a time set during qualifying. Carlisle pulled away from the rest of the field and took the checkered flag over 2.4 seconds ahead of Hargreaves. Billy Northcutt and Chris Davis led the second heat to take the green flag. Davis kept the pressure up on Northcutt as the drivers traded sliders back and forth for the lead with Northcutt taking the win in the end.

The third and final heat had Zachary Loomis and Bobby Hayes on the front row. Loomis had a good jump off the start while Hayes found himself battling with Jason Best over 2nd place. Going into the final lap Hayes had successfully defended 2nd from Best and closed the gap to Loomis but didn’t have enough time left in the run to make anything of it as Loomis took the win. Proudfoot made a hard charge through the field from 4th place in the C Main consolation to take the win away from Dylan Corey and Hunter Hill ran away with the lead ahead of J R Shepherd in the B Main.

Carlisle led the field around to take the green flag in the 40-lap feature event with Northcutt to his inside getting a good jump clearing ahead of Northcutt going into the first corner. Hargreaves tucked in behind Carlisle following him around the highline to challenge for 2nd, but Northcutt was able to secure the position 4 laps into the run as Carlisle pulled away from the field. Proudfoot aggressively pushed his car and caught Carlisle and overtook for the lead with 10 laps completed.

Carlisle maintained a tight gap between himself and Proudfoot while Northcutt and Hargreaves fell back to 4th and 5th as Hill cleared around the battling teammates. Contact between Mike Menees and Braxton Williams further back in the field resulted in a caution restacking the field back together putting Proudfoot to the outside of Carlisle as the green came out and racing resumed going into lap 16. Hargreaves tried to take advantage of the restart and took 2nd away from Carlisle as Northcutt challenged Carlisle for 3rd.

Going into the second half of the night, Proudfoot continued to lead with Hargreaves and Carlisle following close behind. Carlisle started running the outside line to gain momentum and was able to get around Hargreaves moving up into 2nd and started reeling Proudfoot in with the laps counting down. Proudfoot started searching around the track looking for speed as Carlisle and Hargreaves completely closed the gap to the front with 10 laps remaining. Carlisle stayed committed to the outside line while Proudfoot kept changing up his line looking for grip.

Going into the final laps, Carlisle threw a slider to take the lead away from Proudfoot as an unfortunate situation for multiple drivers further back in the field brought out a late race caution with 2 laps to go. The drivers stacked back together single file with Carlisle taking the green flag with Proudfoot behind him. Adam Carlisle continued to run the outside wall pulling away from Brandyn Proudfoot to take the checkered flag with William Hargreaves, Hunter Hill, and Jason Best rounding out the top 5 tonight at Port Royal Speedway.

William Hargreaves has a strong lead in the point standings with 712 points, 35 points ahead of Adam Carlisle in 2nd going into the final round next week. Billy Northcutt sits in 3rd with 652 points. J R Shepherd holds on to 4th place with 565 points and Brandyn Proudfoot rounds out the top 5 drivers with 436 points. BRL SLM S19 R9 Recap

19 November 2022
Bootleg Racing League | Season 19 | Round 9
Super Late Model Series | Hickory Motor Speedway
Sim Racing Software: iRacing

J R Shepherd with Different Path Motorsports took the checkered flag tonight in the Bootleg Racing League Super Late Model Series at Hickory Motor Speedway ahead of Justin Morton and Jeffrey Hardin. “Hickory’s one of those tracks that’s extremely line sensitive and the outside lane just does not have much grip at all so everybody’s trying to fight and get down to the bottom and there was a lot of door to door contact for sure”, Shepherd commented at the crew loaded his car up for the night, “Rough night trying to come through the field, just trying to keep it clean and surprised we were able to get up there to be honest with you.”

J R Shepherd sat on top of the timing and scoring boards with his fast 4-lap average time in qualifying at 13.940 and started the evening in 10th due to the grid invert. Donny Moore had the pole position and led the 16-car field to take the green with Jeffrey Hardin to his outside. Moore had a strong jump and quickly cleared out ahead as Hardin slotted down ahead of Adam Schoen to hold onto 2nd place. The field was scrambling to get down to the inside line in the opening laps to prevent being shuffled to the back of the field.

With 10 laps behind them, there was very little movement throughout the field with everyone choosing to run single file as the track split into 2 packs with a gap building behind Michael Goodman in 11th. Mathew Thunhorst was holding onto 7th with Shepherd and Justin Morton directly behind him and was patiently waiting for opportunities rather than push Tim Shinoski ahead of him. A brief checkup ahead of them pushed Shinoski high to avoid contact with Joseph Snyder giving Thunhorst the opening he needed to move forward with Shinoski falling back to 9th behind Morton going into lap 25.

Snyder tried to get his nose beneath Chris Davis for 4th, but Davis shut the door and the 2 drivers came together. Bouncing off each other’s door straighten both drivers back out without losing position. Thunhorst found himself stuck on the outside of Shepherd and quickly started falling back through the field before slotting back in line in 8th. Shepherd was up to 4th with Morton still directly behind him and Thunhorst quickly got around Shinoski and back to the rear bumper of Morton.

Going into lap 40, Moore and Hardin had broken away from Davis in 3rd and Hardin was starting to pressure Moore for the lead. Shepherd quickly got to the inside of Davis stranding Davis to the outside as Morton and Thunhorst cleared around him. Davis fought back when Shinoski tried to follow Thunhorst through and was able to clear back ahead of him to hold onto 6th place. Approaching the 2nd half of the night, Davis had to check up on corner exit and Shinoski caught the rear of him sending himself around and collecting Rubin Altice bringing out the caution.

Moore continued to lead the field as the green flag came back out, but Shepherd started from 3rd directly behind them. Hardin tried to prevent being stuck out on the outside and went for the lead along the outside. After a few laps, Hardin realized the move wasn’t going to work and tried to slot in behind Moore but made contact with Shepherd to his inside. Shepherd checked up abruptly letting Hardin in causing Thunhorst to go high to avoid contact. Thunhorst was quickly shuffled far back into the field as a train of cars went by to his inside before he could get back down in 11th place.

Thunhorst was aggressively pushing up through the field making up any positions he could going into the last 30 laps quickly jumping up to 9th as Shepherd cleared around Hardin for 2nd. Going into lap 81, Shepherd beat Moore around turn four and took the lead with Morton still holding in 4th. Thunhorst was having more trouble trying to push through traffic and after making contact with Snyder made the decision to retire early bringing his car straight to the trailer essentially forfeiting his run for the points championship as his competitors ran 1st and 2nd in the field with 10 laps remaining.

Shepherd and Morton ran side by side around the final laps with neither driver willing to concede. Shepherd had a strong enough run out of turn 2 to clear ahead of Morton down the back stretch with Hardin holding 3rd. Coming out of the last corner, J R Shepherd took the checkered flag with Justin Morton, Jeffrey Hardin, Chris Daivs, and Michael Goodman rounding out the top 5 tonight at Hickory Motor Speedway.

J R Shepherd has a strong lead in the point standings after his win tonight with 418 points. Mathew Thunhorst holds onto 2nd place after a rough night with 395 points over Justin Morton with 388 points. Joseph Snyder holds onto 4th with 296 points and Donny Moore rounds out the top 5 with 290 points. After the Thanksgiving holiday, the drivers of the Bootleg Racing League head out to South Boston Speedway for the 10th round of Season 19 on December 3rd with all of the action broadcast live at 9PM ET exclusively on the Virtual Grip Network!

James Tiernan took another win as he seems to be unbeatable in the series, regardless of the car or track, in the Bootleg Racing League National Sprint Car Trail at Kokomo Speedway ahead of Brandyn Proudfoot and Bruce Jones. Tiernan shared with us tonight’s winning strategy, “The top line can be very, very quick here and I knew if I just ran it in a little bit more, got rid of that cushion and made it tricky to run, and then just switch to my preferred line which is the bottom here then I think it’d be smooth sailing from there. Kind of Worked out that way.”

James Tiernan took the pole going into the evening with his 4-lap average time of 12.057 in qualifying, beating out the rest of the field by over 0.2 seconds on the boards. Off the jump, Tiernan jumped out to a strong lead as Brandyn Proudfoot quickly climbed up through the field clearing into 2nd only 5 laps into the run. Stephen Spies chased Proudfoot around the high side staying close enough to keep the pressure up on Proudfoot while Tiernan extended his lead out to 1.5 seconds.

Justin Morton and Aiden Young battled hard over 5th place further back in the field as the caution flag came out on lap 12 from a solo car incident erasing Tiernan’s lead ahead of Proudfoot. Proudfoot stayed close behind Tiernan off the green but wasn’t able to challenge for the lead himself with Stephen Spies close behind. Bruce Jones took advantage of the restart and went into the 2nd half of the night going 3 wide with Spies and Proudfoot over 2nd. As the drivers shuffled, Jones jumped up into 2nd ahead of Proudfoot by running the lowline.

Going into the final 6 laps, Tiernan had completely left the field behind running over 5 seconds ahead of the battle for 2nd between Jones and Proudfoot. Spies followed close behind but was slowly falling off the pace. Coming out of the final corner, James Tiernan took the checkered flag with a 5.6 second lead. Bruce Jones and Brandyn Proudfoot came across the line side by side with Proudfoot claiming 2nd place by 0.006 and Stephen Spies and Justin Morton rounded out the top 5 tonight at Kokomo Speedway.

Aiden Young holds onto the lead in the overall point standings with 509 points. Bruce Jones moved up into 2nd with 482 points as Justin Morton slid back to 3rd with 480 points. Stephen Spies moves up into 4th with 418 points and Rory Collins rounds out the top 5 drivers with 411 points. James Tiernan is the current points leader in the Dirt 360 Sprints with 152 points ahead of Bruce Jones and Brandyn Proudfoot.
